Day 34

Start: Agua Dolce, CA

Finish: Agua Dolce, CA

Daily Mileage: 0

PCT Mile: 454.8

Cookie Monster and I took a zero today. Though there was just some snow in the Sierra, it has been melting well and I’m feeling comfortable as I can be with how snow conditions will be when we arrive in mid-May. However, we are still looking to not hurry there, so we are dumping time wherever we can.

It was an easy choice to stay at Serenity’s Oasis a second night since it was inexpensive and Farmer John and Andrea are great and very helpful. They just want to help the hikers and aren’t really making much out of the arrangement especially considering their time. One of the things I like about the trail is that it brings out the good in many people, and it is an enjoyable atmosphere to be in.

I mailed ahead all of my snow gear and ice axe since I won’t need it for the next ~250 miles. Will save me a couple pounds at least, but I will miss my killer cathole digger (ice axe).

I also finally found a scale and have lost 9 pounds in the past 34 days. That’s pretty good considering I wasn’t eating my full food ration for most of the trip so far. Losing weight helps, but you have to be careful to not lose it too quickly.

Off to continue relaxing and resting.
